Coral Mushrooms
The various species of fungi many people simply call coral mushrooms come in a delightful range of sometimes-bright colors. They really do look like coral, branching up from the floor of the forest or sprouting out of rotting logs. Even those indoor people who say they hate mushrooms appreciate these unexpectedly weird forms of life. They just don’t look like anything we’d ever expect to see in the woods. Despite the instant temptation among adventurous wild chefs to cook them up as an exotic surprise for dinner guests, some of the species of coral mushrooms have been known to send victims to the bathroom, which is why these fleshy, forked fungi are best when left alone for the next hiker to admire.
